What will I take home on this contract?

Enter the day rate you've been offered. You get net earnings for the whole contract, with your state's public holidays taken out.

Estimated net earnings for the contract
–

Estimate only, not tax advice. Uses 2026–27 resident tax rates, 2% Medicare levy and the low income tax offset. It ignores HELP debt, private health surcharge, Medicare levy reductions and deductions beyond the costs entered. Tax is worked out as the extra tax your other income plus this contract creates. ABN income has no tax withheld, so set the tax amount aside. State-wide public holidays only (no local show days, and not the Victorian Friday before the AFL Grand Final, which is announced later). Check dates with your state government and rates at ato.gov.au.

How this contract calculator works

Enter the day rate you have been offered, choose your state or territory, and pick a start date and contract length. The calculator counts the Monday to Friday working days, removes your state's public holidays, and estimates the tax you would pay on the income.

Choose PAYG if you are paid as an employee through an agency or umbrella company, with super paid on top of or included in your rate. Choose ABN if you invoice as a sole trader, where no tax is withheld and you set money aside yourself. The results show net earnings for the whole contract and average gross and net pay per week, fortnight and month.
